The Certificate in Public Health Practice is an 18 hour online professional development series. It was created in 2012. The Certificate consists of six courses:

Introduction to Public Health (prerequisite)

Evidence-Based Public Health: Program Planning and Evaluation

Data Skills for Public Health

Community Engagement

Public Health Financial Management

Public Health Policy and Advocacy  (Completion of the Evidence-Based Public Health course is highly recommended. 

Each course provides a certificate of completion, but you must complete all six to get the full certificate.

Community Engagement

Community Engagement

The Community Engagement course focuses on community engagement in the community health assessment process. Particular emphasis is placed on using the Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) model with the County Health Rankings and Roadmap. This model also meets non-profit hospital Community Health Needs Assessment requirements in ACA IRS regulations.

This course provides an overview of issues surrounding advocacy and policy development. Specifically, it examines how to apply advocacy and agenda setting principles in public policy making. The course also explains the relevant legislative and regulatory processes. Overall, this course will increase your familiarity with public health policy, interpretation, and public health decision making.
