Our Mission

Serving the SC workforce since 2010, the South Carolina Public Health Training Center (PHTC) strengthens the public health infrastructure through a comprehensive, competency-based educational and experiential approach to workforce development.

Our Goals

  1. Develop a sustainable infrastructure for public health workforce development.
  2. Assure equal access of Center resources to rural, underserved populations.
  3. Share expertise and resources to contribute to National PHTC Network objectives for public health workforce development.
  4. Assess the learning needs of, and assets for, the public health workforce.
  5. Provide competency-based training programs.
  6. Expand practice-based research, service, and education through collaborative projects and field placements.
  7. Contribute to the scholarship of workforce development through evaluation, dissemination, and translation.

 

As part of a five-year, $3.25 million award from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), PACE created PHTC to strengthen the public health infrastructure within South Carolina. To do this, we offer numerous programs and resources focused on training and workforce development, student field placements in rural and medically underserved areas, and faculty-student collaborative projects.

The long-term outcomes of the project are a stronger, more competent workforce. PHTC also aims to increase organizational capacity of academic and practice partners to jointly study and address public health problems in SC.
